My Journey

A New Path

I started this new journey after being told I had Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Fluid from my lung and spine came back positive for cancer. X-rays showed several small fractures in the thoracic region and the MRI showed a serious Pathological Fracture of the Vertebra in the L-5 region. The L-5 fracture was extremely dangerous because it was resting on my spinal cord.  My life as I knew it only hours ago was gone forever.

For me time stopped. Everything I was, everything I knew, and everything I was going to be was now in the past. The only future for me that was certain was the Oncologist, the Radiologist, and the Orthopedic Surgeon. As the hours and days passed, more of my future showed itself, and it wasn’t pretty.

I came out of the hospital a little more than a week later with a completely new way of living, but living I was. I was surrounded by loving family and friends whom I can’t express enough what it meant for me that they were at my side.

That first night in the hospital I was getting one piece of horrible news after another. I couldn’t wrap my head around everything. What got me through that first night were all the hospital staff and Nurses working so hard to get me through the storm. The next day, with all that was so bad, positive pieces were showing up one after another and I knew I was through the worst of it.

I do not know how long this earth will have me, but I hold on to the all the positives that come my way and I live my best life every day. For me every day is about “The Climb”
